Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life, John 14:6

Grave yards, we see them everywhere.  Walk through one of them and you will see that death has no respect for age, color, creed, position or religion.  We all die.  This is the reality of the human condition, literally we are born dying.  Why do we die?  This is the question for the ages.  God offers us an answer in the Bible, in Romans 6:23, the Bible says this 'The wages (payment) for sin is death,'.  We are all sinners.  We are born that way.  Anyone with children will tell you that they did not have to teach a child how to lie, disobey, steal, throw a tantrum, be selfish or any array of sinful acts.  They happen naturally, just like breathing.

All of us want to live forever.  Every night we see commmercials for how to live longer.  We take pills, excersize, eat better, stop smoking, stop drinking, learn to relax more and on and on we can go, all to live a bit longer here on this earth.  But all this is to no avail.  According to Stats Canada almost 269,000 Canadians died between 2014-2015.  That is 736 per day, everyday.  Death is for real.  In the same verse that we bagan looking at in Romans 6:23, God did not finish with just the wages of sin, He went on to say, 'but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.'  Notice the contrast, death is a wage that we earn with our sinfulness, but eternal life is a gift from God.  You cannot earn it.  In another Bible verse found in Ephesians 2:8 we find this, 'For by grace you have been  saved through faith, it is a gift of God.'  Salvation is a gift from God through your faith.

So haw can you have eternal life?  First you must understand that you are a sinner, worthy of death before a Holy God.  You must accept the fact that you cannot save yourself.  You have no intrinsic goodness in you, nor can you do enough 'good deeds' to offset your sinfulness.  You must depend completely on what God has done for you.  What did God do for you?  He came in the form of a man, Jesus Christ.  He was sinless, He lived a sinless life and  He went about doing good.  He healed the sick, fed the poor, raised the dead and made the lame to walk among other things.  He spoke the truth and for this He was arrested, tried and executed by crucifixion.  This was the most painful type of death that had been invented at the time.  Jesus, an innocant man died.  We the sinful people live.  Jesus, died for us.  Remember that verse in Romans 6:23, 'That wages of sin is death;'  Well Jesus did not sin, so He should have lived.  Thus He paid the wage for you.  So what msut you do to have eternal life?  Romans 10: 9-10 tells us,

'If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (have eternal life). For with the heart one believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.'

You must accept, believe that Jesus is God, that He died and was raised from the dead and you must make a verbal confession of it.  If you do this truly, believe the Jesus is God, the God who created everything, that He died for your sins and was buried and that He was raised from the dead, then you will have eternal life.
